Our Big Read discussion is next Tuesday the 18th at 6PM. We will be discussing "True Grit," a riveting western! Come to the Library and get your free copy!
I know a lot of people came to (and appreciated) the talk we had recently by Holocaust survivor Howard Melton, and we've definitely seen more books about the Holocaust and WWII going out recently. So, in that vein, I'd like to make a recommendation! "Divided We Fall" is, in my opinion, one of the best movies I've ever seen - probably tied for first. It's a Czech movie (with subtitles), so it's set in the Czech Republic during WWII. "During World War II and the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, a couple, Josef and Marie, decide to hide a young Jewish neighbor in their small apartment. They keep getting a visit from their neighbor, Horst, who is a German sympathizer and has his eye on Marie. When she rejects his advances he seeks revenge by trying to move a Nazi clerk into their home, forcing the couple to tell a lie that will change their lives forever." It's a complicated movie, heartbreaking in parts and even funny in others, emotional without becoming maudlin... a bit strange as well. I can't say enough good things about it. Here's the listing for the movie in EasiCat if anyone wants to request it (or you can stop by the library and we can request it for you - the only copy of it is at Mead in Sheboygan): ... See more
