The Lakeview Community Library is very excited to announce our Random Memories: Empowering Individual and Community Memory in Random Lake, Wisconsin project.
The library will be partnering with several organizations and neighboring communities, including the Random Lake Historical Society, our community newspaper The Sounder, and the Random Lake High School to train and provide technical assistance to community members to collect and digitize personal and community narratives and materials. The library will also use activities such as day trips to neighboring communities’ historical societies, community scan days, and lectures to build the capacity of library staff and community members to capture and preserve local stories and memories in their rapidly changing community. In Summer of 2020, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced recipients of the inaugural Accelerating Promising Practices for Small Libraries Grant Program. The Lakeview Community Library was awarded $36,885 over the course of two years to create the Random Memories: Empowering Individual and Community Memory project. This project will implement digitization services alongside a rich and dynamic set of community engagement activities for our community. The project was set to start in Fall of 2020, but had been post-poned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
